Jorge Martin won pole position for the Italian Grand Prix, seventh round of MotoGP 2024, by setting a spectacular lap in 1'44.504 on the magnificent Mugello track. This new record for the Tuscan circuit places him just ahead of Pecco Bagnaia, just 43 thousandths of a second, closely followed by Maverick Viñales on his Aprilia, at 0,140 seconds.

However, bagnaia will have to serve a penalty of three positions on the grid tomorrow, for having obstructed Alex Marquez. Bagnaia had described ridiculous even the simple summons to the race director…

Marc Marquez, for his part, took fourth place and will find himself on the front row on Sunday due to the penalty of bagnaia. But the eight-time world champion could also face a penalty, after slowing down the rookie Peter Acosta at the beginning of meeting. Behind Marquez, we find Enea BastianiniFollowed by Franco Morbidelli and Peter Acosta.

Alex Marquez, with the Ducati GP23 of Gresini Racing, completed the Top Ten alongsideAleix Espargaro on the Aprilia RS-GP 24 andAlex Rins on Yamaha, the only rider with a Japanese bike in the top twelve. Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez on Trackhouse Aprilia closed Q2.

The drivers of the VR46 Racing Team, Fabio di Giannantonio et Marco Bezzecchi, failed to advance through Q1, finishing 14th and 16th respectively. fabio quartararo on Yamaha finished 15th, Lorenzo Savadori (Aprilia tester) 22nd, and Luca marini (Repsol Honda) 24th.

For Martin, this is the 16th pole in MotoGP and the 37th of his career. The MotoGP Sprint Race is now to follow. What will she have in store for us? Before knowing it, here is the table which summarizes the facts known so far.
