As expected, the skies above Motegi opened their floodgates for qualifying day. The 2nd MotoGP test session took place in pouring rain. At least the temperatures were pleasant: 23 degrees outside, 23 degrees on the asphalt.
The forecasts were respected and the pouring rain thus asserted itself from the second free practice session of the MotoGP category at the Twin Ring of Motegi, scene of the Japanese Grand Prix, 16th stage of MotoGP 2022. The direct consequence is the knowledge of the list of drivers who will compete in Q1: Enea Bastianini, Jorge Martin, Johann zarco, Marco Bezzecchi, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli, to name just a few.
When FP2 contested with rain tires, the fastest was Marc Marquez which took Honda into the lead with a time of 1'55.232. Behind the Repsol rider at 0,144s, we find the Ducati Pramac of George Martin, who in turn is only 11 thousandths ahead of his teammate Jack Miller. Fourth time for the KTM Miguel Oliveira, in front of the Ducati Pramac of Johann Zarco, Franco Morbidelli (Yamaha) and Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing).
The Top Ten was closed by Alex Marquez (Honda LCR) Luca marini (Ducati Mooney VR46 Racing Team) and the leader fabio quartararo (Yamaha). Pecco Bagnaia, who continues Quarterly with 10 points behind in the championship, is 15th, 1s520s from the top.
The best rookie was Fabio DiGiannantonio (Ducati Gresini) 12th, followed by Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati Mooney VR46 Racing Team) 13th, Remy gardner (KTM Team Tech3) 16th, Raul fernandez (KTM Team Tech3) 20th and Darryn binder (Yamaha WithU RNF) 21rd.
What will this FP3 have in store for us, supposed to prepare for Sunday's race, but which will take place on a wet track while the Japanese Grand Prix is expected on the dry? At least it will be a real rehearsal for the qualifications... In the meantime, here are the facts known so far.

Bad weather, widely expected Japan, canceled the third free practice session of the MotoGP class at the Twin Ring in Motegi, scene of the Japanese Grand Prix, 16th stage of the 2022 World Championship. The rain which had already fallen during the night became increasingly insistent and a few minutes after the start of Q2 of Moto2 it started to be really strong.

The result was a red flag, with drivers returning to the pits. The intermediate category round did not resume and even the MotoGP class riders were unable to take to the track for FP3. For the moment, Q2 Moto2 and Q1 and Q2 MotoGP remain on the program even if for the moment there are no timetables.
