Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo will start the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix from 14th and 16th positions on the grid respectively.

Morbidely found an improvement during free practice and put it to good use during the hotly contested qualifying. He used an extra lap to get into the rhythm in Q1, then settled into the top 4 before returning to the pits for a new set of tires. When he returned to the track, he had time to make three additional attempts before the end of 15 minutes. He improved his time to 1'36.793s, in the 6th of 8 laps, 0.300s from the first. This result allows him to occupy 14th place on the starting grid.

The reference tour of Quarterly in Q1 allowed him to take first place with a margin of 0,051s. This advantage was short-lived and the Yamaha rider had to push further. A 1'37.116s in the third round allowed him to move up to second place. But once all the drivers have made their pit stop, the level rises. The Devil reacted courageously but failed to stay in the top 2. His 1'37.072s, achieved on the 6th of 8 laps, allowed him to finish the session in sixth position, 0.579s from first place in Q1. He will start the Sprint and the Race from 16th position on the grid.

Franco Morbidelli : " Qualifying was difficult because we couldn't get into Q2, unfortunately. The gap is very tight, but we know that with the new tires our potential is not the same as that of the others. We tried, but we couldn't get into Q2. We'll have to see. The pace, from our starting position, may or may not be interesting, it really depends on what's happening. The main thing is that we must continue to attack to increase our potential with the new tires. »

fabio quartararo : " Unfortunately, the qualifying session was again difficult for us. To be honest, I expected to do much better today on this circuit, which is special for me, also considering the lower temperature this morning. But we failed to enter Q2. Obviously I'm not happy with the result, but now we can focus on having a good Sprint, to see what potential we have for tomorrow. »
