For George Martin (Prima Pramac Racing), the Grand Prix Sprint MotoGP of Spain was a “quiet day at the office in Jerez” which increasingly places the Pramac driver in the position of favorite for the title. But behind the #89, chaos reigned at Jerez, no less than 15 riders having fallen on patches of humidity, fortunately all unhurt and most, or many, having immediately returned to the track.
The beginner Peter Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) evaded all the traps that tripped up his experienced opponents before taking second place and making his first visit to the Sprint podium in front of an enthusiastic crowd. fabio quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) celebrated initially too, gaining an unreal number of positions, 20 as his number, before a tire pressure penalty demoted him to fifth place. What promoted Dani Pedrosa, MotoGP™ legend and wildcard for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, in third place.
The poleman Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) fell out of the lead but came back and then attacked, taking no prisoners to finish 6th. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) and Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) slipped in three separate but perfectly synchronized incidents. Francis Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), for its part, paid the price for a sandwich between Binder and Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team), considered a racing incident, the other two having continued on their way. The winner of COTA, Maverick Vinales (Aprilia Racing), also fell, and the list didn't stop there, as a largely dry, but not yet perfectly dry, track surprised some big names.
Here is the list of falls and the ranking of this Sprint, to say the least, full of twists and turns…
Weather-wise, the forecasts were not wrong, with a sunny Friday morning and Sunday but a very humid Saturday...
