After two dark seasons at Honda, Joan Mir continues to believe that Honda will return to the top soon.
This season, Honda riders have been regularly competing in the top 10, which gives hope for a return to the top, encouraged by Johann Zarco's victory at Le Mans, albeit in unusual conditions. This overall improvement in the Japanese manufacturer's results somewhat makes us forget the difficult times it has faced in recent years, and particularly the last two.
Yet Joan mir experienced the situation head-on when he joined Honda in 2023. After the cataclysm caused by Suzuki's departure from MotoGP, the manufacturer with whom he had spent his entire career in the premier class and won his 2020 title, he found himself in a very complex situation, riding at the back of the standings and suffering a series of crashes.
"For a driver like me, not being able to get results, not being able to be motivated is difficult.", he told MotoGP.com. "We've been at the top, and I've also encountered difficult moments. We ask ourselves a lot of questions, whether it's worth it or not. All the doubts we have appear in our heads. That's when we have to understand what helps us. For me, it's been my family, it's been training at home, the team, the atmosphere, being well surrounded."
"I still have the support of Honda, and that support helps me keep going in difficult times. No one can doubt how much I believe in this project. I've been through the worst times of my career with Honda, and yet I still believe we'll get back to the top."
At the French Grand Prix, Johann Zarco allowed Honda to regain victory, when Joan mir was the victim of a collision at the start of the race which caused him to abandon, in addition to having injured himIt is not known whether he will participate in the British GP this weekend, but whether he is there or not, the Frenchman has clearly gained the upper hand over him and Luca Marini in terms of performance since last year. Mir knows that he will now have to finish the races and move up the rankings to assert its place, because the RC213V now has much more potential.
