Joan Mir joins the elite...

Joan Mir has definitely entered another dimension in terms of notoriety, and this title of MotoGP World Champion is apparently a powerful lever. Thus, the man who was only known by those initiated in the Grand Prix paddock is now in the spotlight of fame since he has been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards...

The world champion of MotoGP, Joan mir, has been nominated to be part of one of the world's biggest sports awards of the past year. The 23-year-old Majorcan is in fact one of the six nominees for the “ Breakthrough of the year " to the Laureus World Sports Awards.

The official Suzuki will have to deal with a strong part. Among his competitors, we note the Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem, who won his first Grand Slam tournament last year, as well as the 22-year-old Slovenian professional cyclist Tadej Pogacar, who postponed the last edition of the Tour de France cyclist, a great first for him.

Patrick Mahomes, quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, who won the Superbowl last year, Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek (winner of the French Open) and football talent Ansu Fati of FC Barcelona are also of the selection.

Joan Mir joins Rossi and Marc Marquez on the shelves

MotoGP stars have been nominated for various categories of the Laureus World Sports Awards in the past. So far, Valentino Rossi (2011 for the return of the year) and Marc Marquez (2015 for Breakthrough of the Year) won. Will he brilliantly complete this prestigious list? That's all the bad we wish him.

Too bad for Joan mir, but there will be no big gala like in previous years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead, a “virtual event” will take place in May…
