After being stayed in Dubai much longer than expected, Jorge Lorenzo was finally able to return to the Swiss landscapes where he chose to reside. Here he takes stock of the current situation, the main drivers in the field and he also explains to us how he sees the future recovery.

“I was in a hotel in Dubai when the pandemic broke out. I stayed there for several weeks. Then when Abu Dhabi airport reopened, I checked in and we went home with my other friends. Now I'm here in Lugano, spending my days at home, training and trying to stay fit » declared the Mallorcan to El Larguero for Spanish radio Cadenaser.

Many people are wondering when it will be possible to leave again.

“We hope for 2020, although it will not be easy. It seems that the situation is improving, but we will have to understand how it will evolve and what containment measures will be. It's a bit hard, it's like being on a roller coaster, although it's my hope that the World Championship can be held over 10 races. »

Lorenzo then travels in his mind to the past.

“I have dedicated many years to motorcycling and now I would like to enjoy life a little more – more than that – from life. What matters now is that I feel good and follow all safety rules. Then we will try to understand what the future will be. »

Lorenzo has clear ideas on the subject of MotoGP.

“Manufacturers are worried because they don’t sell motorcycles. Then there is the question of the World Championship, where Dorna wants to race behind closed doors. I am of the opinion that it is better to have few races, but to broadcast them on television to entertain the public. »

Lorenzo as a wild card.

“I would like to race at Misano, a track where I have often won, but also at Motegi, a special track for Yamaha. »

Alex Marquez

“Alex has improved, but at the beginning he will have difficulty with the Honda, because it is not an easy bike. In his stand, there will be an important reference: his brother, to try to understand. Álex will definitely need it. He will need a lot of patience. »

Lorenzo seen for himself.

“Personally, I am happy with my career. I have always been a real man. Maybe sometimes I came across as a less likeable pilot than the others, but I prefer to be myself. »

“In the race, I realized that there were no friends and no enemies. It's not easy to have friends among drivers, because you have to duel with them on the track, but I certainly can't call them enemies. I just see them as rivals, I've had a lot of them, but I never hated them. »

“Pedrosa was a great opponent in 250, but also Rossi in 2009 and 2010, I would also say Marc in 2013. We fought with Valentino on many occasions, I especially remember 2009. He was a great opponent in 250, but also in 2009 and 2010.”

“Márquez is a level above everyone. But I think he's a driver who can be beaten anyway. I succeeded in 2015*, Dovi came close in 2017** and Quartararo had more than one opportunity last year***. Marc has great experience in MotoGP which he highlights. »

*2015: 1 Lorenzo 330 points, 2 Rossi 325, 3 Marquez 242

**2017: 1 Score 298 points, 2 Dovizioso 261 points

***2019: Catalonia, 1 Márquez, 2 Quartararo at 2.660, San Marino, Quartararo 2 at 0.903, Thailand Quartararo 2 at 0.171, Motegi Quartararo 2 at 0.870, Valencia Quartararo 2 at 1.026.
