Jorge Lorenzo recalls that it was also good times for Yamaha...

Jorge Lorenzo returned from his vacation in Dubai where he had a good time meeting up with some good friends. But now, what will he do with all this time that will be his life? Because he will no longer ride MotoGP, including in testing. So he develops new projects and also remembers the not-so-distant past. For example when he was at Yamaha. A manufacturer to whom he brought the last world title in 2015.

Jorge Lorenzo let himself go into confidence in an interview with Sky Sports24. For example on his future projects which will obviously be far from a handlebar. Because his last opportunity which was Aprilia never really came to fruition: “ there have been contacts with Aprilia, but for the moment the road is closed he says. " There were contacts with Massimo Rivola, whom I have been friends with for a long time, and with Aprilia, we talked about it, but the negotiations did not go ahead, they chose to stay with their riders.” And he reassures: « honestly, it's not something that keeps me from sleeping ».

But then, what is he dreaming of anyway? “ I have a lot of new ideas for my future, less stressful than MotoGP racing but still exciting » says Por Fuera. “ An open route, for example, is that as a television commentator and I do not even exclude the possibility of giving my experience to a young driver by becoming his manager ».

Jorge Lorenzo: “the Yamaha is not the most complete motorcycle without me”

To perhaps show what he would bring as a commentator, he gives his opinion on the evolution in MotoGP from a manufacturer since he no longer rides one of his motorcycles. As it happens Yamaha : " I have always been a very sensitive rider, since I was a child, because my father made me ride on many different motorcycles and so I was able to adapt quickly by understanding what worked and what didn't. I've always had this ability ».

« Yamaha has trusted me in recent years. The years I was there, we had a very good period making a motorcycle that was easy to ride and intuitive. When I went to Ducati, other riders took care of the evolution of the bike, I can't make a comparison, but I certainly believe that Yamaha, for the degree of improvement of the bike, is not as complete as when I was racing on the team ". An interesting expertise which means that the role of Red on the development of the M1 was not so essential while his successors are, according to him, less experienced in the imperatives of the task...

On its way, Jorge Lorenzo gives his opinion on the movements of pilots at Yamaha in view of the 2021 season: “ I was surprised by Yamaha's decision to put Rossi in a satellite team like Petronas. I never would have imagined it, but at the same time I think it won't change much for him, he will do well. We have seen the excellent results obtained by Quartararo and Morbidelli, the bike is competitive and finally Yamaha must do like all other teams: look to the future ».

A situation which reminds him of that of 2008: “ I was plan B in case Valentino left for Formula 1 and they chose a young driver like me. The future lies with the youngest pilots and choosing Quartararo is a logical choice ". If we follow him, Valentino Rossi will therefore have been replaced twice in twelve years.

Jorge Lorenzo could not finish his speech without talking about Ducati and the two characters he knows well: Andrea Dovizioso et Gigi Dall'Igna : " When a relationship breaks down it's normal to have friction, there are two different versions, each thinks it was the other who made a mistake. Andrea defends his pride and his image, Ducati does the same. I think it was a successful marriage for both. The team has been back to challenge for the title, so I think both should be happy ». Jorge Lorenzo as a mediator, we wouldn't have thought that...
