George Martin

MotoGP championship leader Jorge Martin has not minced his words in calling himself the “best rider there is” right now, while admitting there are still some areas he needs to refine his riding. In an interview with DAZN ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix, Martin expressed a strong belief in his abilities, even after a turbulent 2024 season.

« It's very difficult to say who is the best ", however, acknowledged George Martin. " What does it mean to be the best rider? It's very ambiguous. There are four of us fighting at the top with Ducati: Pecco Bagnaia, Marc Marquez, Enea Bastianini and me. It may sound arrogant, but I think I'm the best driver out there. »

Despite this ambitious statement, Martin also acknowledged that he needed to continue working on himself: " I have to refine things, work and improve, because otherwise, you can go from first to eighth place very quickly. But I think I'm the fastest in the world, and the numbers show it. »

Jorge Martin: between ambition and reality

Martin indeed dominates certain statistics this season, with five pole positions, more than any other driver, and four sprint victories. However, bagnaia has won seven Grand Prix against two for Martin, which makes the fight for the 2024 title very tight.

Le San Marino Grand Prix marked a turning point for Martin, who saw his championship lead drastically reduced after a risky strategy dropped him to 15th place. The Spaniard also admitted that he had " felt like an idiot " after that Ducati preferred Marc Marquez to his promotion to the factory team for next season.

After the San Marino event, the Pramac team manager Gino Borsoi commented about his driver: “ This year, Jorge is much calmer, much more prepared for this fight.. So I trust Jorge a lot. I have no doubt that from now on, we will continue to do things well ; as we have done so far ».

Despite the disappointments, George Martin remains a serious contender for the title MotoGP, strong in his regularity and his determined attitude. With seven rounds remaining, the battle between Martin et bagnaia without forgetting Marquez et bastianini still in contact promises to be one of the most exciting of the season.
