George Martin

The rumor is insistent, so much so that in Spain, it is a certainty: Jorge Martin will succeed Jack Miller in the Ducati factory team. A formality openly supported by Jorge Lorenzo, close to the rider and who, in Ducati circles, has remained very attached to certain men. The five-time World Champion said he was convinced of the arrival of his young compatriot in the Borgo Panigale factory team. Everything would therefore be going well in the best of all possible worlds for last season's rookie and already Grand Prix winner if the prospect had not attracted the evil eye. Because since then, he has had many falls and disappointments...

The red motorcycle at Ducati would it be a curse in 2022? Those who have it are suffering. Jack Miller is trying to get by to ensure its future beyond this year while Pecco Bagnaia is the most affected by fate: designated the big favorite of the season, he has lost his bearings and a dynamic that he is still trying to find again. A bad spiral which also carries away George Martin for having been pushed too close by the rumor which promises him, for next year, the place of the Australian.

Losing big points against a Enea Bastianini who established himself as a leader at Ducati with his two victories, Jorge Martin regrets moreover three falls in the race Qatar, where he was the collateral victim of bagnaia, riding a Indonesia in the rain and recently Portimao. Would the 3 Moto2018 World Champion have too much pressure at stake? Behind the scenes, he wants to regain the initiative that the track took away from him.

Jorge Martin: “I don't think Bagnaia is superior to me"

And he begins by recalling his love for the Bologna manufacturer: “ it's a brand that represents me and has always represented my family. My father raced with the Ducati, even if it wasn't in the world championship. The DNA of the motorcycle resembles me, the Ducati must feel like its own. And then there is a good atmosphere with the manufacturer: we all work as a team, between Pramac and Ducati, it is very important ».

Then he specifies: “ I fight to win, races and titles, and I hope to do it again here, at Ducati ". With Pramac? Not really, and this is where he gets to the heart of the matter: “ in 2023, I want to be in the same team as Bagnaia ". And he explains why: “ it's logical, I aim high and he is already confirmed in the official team, I hope to arrive soon in its own box. It would be another dream come true ».

The Spaniard goes even further by imagining what their relationship would be like: “ it would be dangerous for other drivers! We have excellent relationships and the same opinion on the bike, it's important in a team to improve ". He finishes : " we are at a very similar level. Maybe he can be more consistent than me, but I don't think he's superior. I can fight with him ". The message got through. We will also recall that Jorge Martin stressed last week that he could join almost any team for the future. His manager Albert Valera speaks to many factory teams in the MotoGP category.
