Jorge Martin Qatar

Ducati Pramac rider and MotoGP rookie this season Jorge Martin, will be particularly observed this weekend during the Portuguese Grand Prix. The Spaniard is indeed coming off an excellent Doha Grand Prix where he started from pole position, to bravely lead 18 of the 22 laps with his GP21. He finished third with his great demonstration which was therefore rewarded with a first podium. A memorable weekend and a euphoric epilogue which put Johann Zarco's teammate on cloud nine. He readily admits it by confessing on his You Tube channel…

George Martin did the right thing Doha Grand Prix on a Losail route that he had ended up knowing by heart after having surveyed it for more than ten days with his Ducati Pramac. This weekend it will be Portimao, which will have to be assimilated in two days before embarking on the Portuguese Grand Prix. A challenge that the Ducati sporting director has already pointed out Paolo Ciabatti, curious to know how his hope will fare.

But before heading to the Algarve, Jorge Martin enjoy a little more Doha by sharing his memories on his You Tube channel. A turbulent period which began with the acquisition of pole position, his first in MotoGP in his first season in the category and after only two Grands Prix contested: “ I slept zero, it was an almost sleepless night » admits the Spaniard about the moments following the feat. “ We arrived at the hotel at 23:30 p.m. and I hadn't eaten. After dinner I fell asleep, but it took me about two hours. The day of the race I woke up at 06:00 a.m. I slept for about four hours ».

A physiological assessment which worried even those close to him: “ my manager, Albert, my father, my girlfriend Anabel were worried. They told me “go to sleep, you can’t run like that”. I rested a little before the race, had a good coffee, was able to be competitive and resist throughout the race ».

Jorge Martin: “Zarco is currently one of the best drivers on the grid”

The espresso thus rubbed off on his racing pace, and also on his style. Looking back at the footage of the race, he said: “ I saw the photos and they are incredible, touching the shoulder almost to the ground. This comes naturally to me because being a smaller rider than the others, I need to lean more in the corners. This is the only way to move the center of gravity a little further inwards. The good thing is that I don't use much tire with these inclinations ».

A detail that is not one. He also returns to the fact that he resigned himself to the third step of the podium, not attempting one last riposte to his teammate John Zarco who had just passed it: “ I think he is currently one of the best drivers on the grid. I am very happy to have such a competitive driver by my side because he pushes you to improve ».

George Martin ends with this last revelation: “ I left the trophy in Qatar, I forgot it in the garage. We were in a hurry to leave the circuit ". The story does not say whether he collected it to put it in his window.
