The 2024 MotoGP season could undergo substantial changes to its calendar. After the Argentine Grand Prix was canceled due to economic instability, another disruption is on the horizon. Originally scheduled for June, the Kazakhstan Grand Prix has been postponed without a fixed date, following major flooding in the region. At the same time, the future of the Indian Grand Prix, integrated into the calendar the previous year, is now uncertain.
According to motorsport, the Indian Grand Prix could be canceled. Financial problems with the local organizer, Fairstreet Sports, who has not made the necessary payments, could result in the cancellation of the planned event of 20 22 in September. Dorna, the promoter of the series, has set a deadline of May 20 for receiving funds. Failing this, the race in India would be removed from the calendar.
In this context, the Kazakh Grand Prix could conveniently take India's place. The international circuit of Sokol, although completed, faces logistical challenges, including a lack of qualified personnel to manage an event of the magnitude of a MotoGP.
India does not pay and Kazakhstan lacks qualified personnel
Indeed, talks are underway with the international circuit of Sepang in Malaysia to transfer there until 400 trained professionals, in the hope of filling this gap.
Uncertainty hangs over the capacity to reorganize the Kazakh Grand Prix in time to replace that of India. Rumors also suggest that Dorna could use the situation to put pressure on the Indian organizer by revealing the problems at Fairstreet Sports.
The coming days should clarify the situation and confirm whether the replacement of the Indian Grand Prix by that of Kazakhstan is a viable solution or simply a backup plan in case of an emergency. MotoGP fans and teams await answers as the second half of the season promises to be as unpredictable as it is exciting.
