Hubert Trunkenpolz, the 'T' of KTM and influential member of the Pierer Mobility Group Board of Directors, has revealed ambitious plans for the return of MV Agusta to MotoGP. According to him, when the new regulations come into force in 2027, this prestigious brand, now under the Austrian umbrella, will be ready to make its comeback in the premier category.

In an interview with GP One, Trunkenpolz has explained : " our plan with MV Agusta is very simple: from 2024 to 2026 we need to get the business back on track. At the moment we are talking about 'work in progress' in Varese. It will take some time to stabilize all aspects, from the product line to the production site to the commercial side. And until everything is in order, there is no point in racing MotoGP. However, 2027 could be a good year for MV Agusta to use MotoGP resources, and we will continue this commitment with Hervé Poncharal’s Tech3 team »

From a technical and regulatory point of view, Trunkenpolz specified: " we certainly won't arrive after developing a separate engine. KTM and MV will have to share the new 850 cc MotoGP engine. This is why MV Agusta will not be a separate manufacturer in 2027; we can't afford it. »

« Maybe we will develop different frames and distinct aerodynamics for MV Agusta »

However, Trunkenpolz discussed specific innovation possibilities: “ maybe we will develop different frames and distinct aerodynamics. All this is feasible and imaginable, but the engine will be the same. It will then be Dorna to tell us whether they consider us a new manufacturer or a satellite team in their own World Constructors' Championship rankings. And we will take note of their decision »

This strategic plan aims to revitalize MV Agusta and to prepare his return to MotoGP in a structured and progressive manner. With a solid technical and logistical partnership with KTM and support from the team Tech3, MV Agusta hopes to not only return, but also be competitive upon her return. The coming years will be crucial for this motorcycle icon, and all eyes will be on 2027 to see this great comeback in action.
