The highest international motorcycle body and its equally statutory counterpart in the automobile industry have decided to make common cause to preserve the safety of riders. The FIM and the FIA have therefore undertaken to reflect on common measures to limit the risks, closely linked to the disciplines of motor sports. The first effect of this rapprochement will be seen literally and figuratively since it concerns the paint applied to the lines...

La FIA will collaborate with the International Motorcycling Federation on a series of current and future security projects. The proof with this approach aimed at defining a new standard of painting for use on circuits. A marking which concerns the boundary lines of the track, the curbs and the asphalt clearance areas.

The new standard defines a series of performance criteria for paint, including friction properties and visibility under different conditions. This result will ensure that the paint used on circuits around the world will perform uniformly in dry or wet weather, reducing the risk of accidents due to sudden loss of grip.

This is the first in a series of collaborative projects between the FIA and END, with the aim of working together on a series of research projects related to circuits and safety devices.

The president of the FIA, Jean Todt, said : " It is a great pleasure for me to welcome this collaboration with the FIM on a series of safety projects. By organizing for safety, we can advance the standards for all motorsport disciplines around the world »

The President of the END, Jorge Viegas added : " the FIM and FIA share circuits around the world. A collaborative approach to safety standards will not only simplify the process for track officials, but will also ensure the highest level of safety for drivers around the world. »
