Catalonia

This isn't exactly the news we wanted with just over ten days left before the bikes take over the Jerez track. A site which will be their entrenched camp until the end of July, for two Grands Prix. That of Spain and that of Andalusia, which will be the first two races of the 2020 MotoGP season. This information concerns Catalonia which is partially reconfining due to Coronavirus contamination which is starting again with a vengeance. 38 municipalities in the Lleida region are affected. A place where we find many top pilots…

It is to be hoped that the Marquez, Rabat and other I will espargaro, non-exhaustive list, left their home before these measures were taken. Or that they will be entitled to exemptions. Indeed, since Saturday July 4, the 38 municipalities in the Lleida region (north-west of Catalonia) have been reconfined. A reconfinement that could last 15 days.

The re-containment of Lleida began this Saturday at midday and concerns nearly 210.000 people. Entrances and exits to this area are also restricted. Those who enter or leave the zone face fines of 100 to 600 euros. For Catalan leaders, the re-containment could be extended by at least 15 days.

The country opens its borders

In the minds of local authorities, the reconfinement of Lleida aims to limit mobility in the sector and to “lower social life”. However, there is no strict confinement at home. In addition to the ban on traveling outside the area, residents will have to respect important physical distancing and personal protection measures, such as the use of a mask.

« We have decided to confine the Segrià area around the city of Lérida, based on data which confirms a very significant growth in the number of Covid-19 contagions“, declared to the press the president of the region, the independentist Quim Torra.

Spain recorded 17 coronavirus deaths in one day on Friday, according to the Health Ministry, the highest daily number of deaths since June 19. These figures fell as many Spaniards went on vacation, and as the country opened its borders on Saturday to nationals of 12 new countries, following the recommendations of the European Union.
