Moto3

We have known for several months now that the Moto3 category should radically change by 2028. We also shared an interview with Carlos Ezpeleta on this subject, which you can find by clicking hereIndeed, the last very good Moto3 riders are struggling to perform in Moto2, the category above. To compensate for this difference, an initial proposal was made, and was based on increasing the engine capacity. But the first drafts from the highest authorities are far from satisfying everyone...

Asked about the issue, Mirko Cecchini, team principal of the Rivacold Honda Snipers Team in Moto3, did not show particular interest in some of the ideas put forward so far. « Switching to production bikes in Moto3 is not a wise decisionThis would significantly reduce interest, even for spectators. It would be better to allow chassis freedom, as in Moto2. This way, different manufacturers could build and develop their own bikes. Using production motorcycles in the World Championship would make no sense » he declared for GP One.

Another major point of discussion was the increase in engine capacity. Today, the 250cc seems a bit too weak to prepare riders for the powerful MotoGP. “Are we talking about 700cc or even 780cc? It's almost the same as the Moto2, which is 765cc, or even more. And for 50 euros, a bike like this could only come from China." he added.

Questions that are very difficult to answer, but It is clear that the authorities must do something : Today, we train more Moto3 specialists than top MotoGP riders, and that's a problem. There are also many other parameters to take into account, such as the addition of electronics and aerodynamics, to get riders used to working with these essential elements from now on.

What do you think of Cecchini's statements? Tell us in the comments!
