The Repsol Honda driver had a very good first day at Le Mans and is satisfied with his sensations in the wet.

Alex Marquez continues his discovery of the MotoGP category for his very first season as a rookie, and the Le Mans track was able to provide him with new lessons today. This is in fact only the second time that the Spaniard has been able to try his machine in the wet and then on a drying track and he did rather well since he is currently in the top 10 in free practice and therefore provisionally qualified automatically for Q2, which would be a great first for him.

During FP1 the field ran on wet tires and Márquez was very satisfied with the tires on offer. “The tires are really different from those of Moto2 and the Michelin rain tire brings a lot of confidence”, he explained. “Normally I'm quite fast in the wet and I'm happy to feel good. »

Well, indeed he was, as he finished 14th this morning and then took sixth place in FP2, almost a second behind Jack Miller's best time. The good sensations were there and it was important to collect data in the wet with a view to the next Grands Prix. “From now until the end of the season we can have a lot of races like this so it is important to have a basic configuration for these conditions”, he added.

However, these should change for the rest of the weekend since only showers are forecast and we will have to see if the Honda driver will maintain the same pace: “On Saturday and Sunday I think it will be colder than today but it will be dry. It might complicate everything a bit but I think we can manage it well. »
