The Suzuki driver put on a show on the Le Mans circuit but ultimately made a mistake on a tricky track.

The objective ofAlex Rins was to confirm his Barcelona podium this weekend, won two weeks ago after a very complicated start to the season. Until the race, the Spanish driver was far from having done so having missed his qualifications, as is very often the case.

With a 16th place on the grid, the French Grand Prix did not promise to be easy, especially since the rain came to play spoilsport, forcing a delay in the start of the MotoGP category, which took place on a wet track.

But, against all expectations, Rins managed his first laps perfectly and returned at full speed to the leading group before fighting for the podium. Author of a fantastic overtake on Jack Miller and Andrea Dovizioso, he put on a show for many laps and showed great pace, but ended up getting trapped.

Having left in a hurry, he did not see that one of the straps used to remove his motorcycle from the gravel trap had remained attached to the rear and he was forced to stop to remove it two laps later . Last, very far away, he ended up entering the pit lane on the last lap, without bothering to cross the finish line since he was not going to score any points.

It is therefore a blank result but one full of confidence for the Suzuki rider, who will show up very motivated in Aragón, starting next weekend. “It’s a shame about the fall but I feel really good because there were a lot of positives today”, did he declare. “I managed the pressure of the delayed start and my poor grid position, and I felt very good on the bike. I recovered a lot of places, a lot of time and I felt good in the leading group. I did a double overtake on the Ducatis and it was incredible! But in the end I crashed and didn't get on the podium. Anyway, Aragón is like another home Grand Prix for me so I'm happy to go there and I hope to achieve a better qualification there! »
