A crash during FP3 and an error at the fateful moment of qualifying left a bitter taste in the mouth of Valentino Rossi who knows that he had the means to hope for better than a fourth row on the starting grid. The Doctor will only start tenth, which never bodes well when you're riding a Yamaha. He talks about his day on Saturday...

Valentino Rossi did not shine during the qualifications on Saturday at the Le Mans circuit. A negative result, as he admitted, especially in view of the error in the last lap which did not allow him to try for a better time. The tenth position on the starting grid certainly complicates Rossi's plans and will force him to work hard in the race to get back into the leading group.

The nine-time world champion is disappointed with the qualifying result, but he recognizes positive aspects in the behavior of his M1… “ It was a positive day, but the only thing that really mattered didn't go well “, explained the Yamaha official to Sky Sport.

The second line was possible

« I'm not happy to start tenth " said Red when trying to analyze qualifications. “ I should have done better because my pace is better. When accelerating, the bike is nervous, but I go fast with a full tank. As usual we are all there, but on the last lap I made a mistake at T4 when braking, otherwise I would have taken the second row ».

« We struggle when we are on a full time trial and the Yamaha becomes difficult to ride between the corners. Keeping the throttle fully open between turns is difficult. You feel like you have to put on your cowboy hat and ride a horse. Today the low temperature didn't help us, but we have to work ". He finishes : " it's difficult to make a strategy from the fourth line, you just have to see round after round and take advantage of all the mistakes of others. The good thing is that my pace is pretty consistent, even with worn tires: if I manage to do a lap at 1'32 tomorrow, I could finish in front. I have to try, I have to try to do my best ».
