Loris Capirossi has been in a jovial mood since the Coronavirus loosens its grip on the world. And for good reason: he sees the launch of the 2020 MotoGP season more and more clearly: “ we are following the evolution of the situation and around June 10 we will present the MotoGP season », Commented the former pilot. “ We all have a great desire to start again and now we are really on the verge of doing so. The season should be between 12 and 13 races. For the moment, we will go to eight circuits and we will not present a meeting outside of Europe ».
« These could arrive later, but to race non-European Grands Prix, you will need the public. Otherwise, it won't happen. The schedule will be short, but certainly enjoyable. It's not just a way of saying it. We just need to go back in time a little and remember that the title was regularly decided with a championship which did not exceed twelve races. There were fewer points and bigger battles and there will be again ».
“Valentino Rossi will want to show that Yamaha was wrong”
In this long interview, Capirex also spoke about Valentino Rossi. Loris bets on the fact that the Doctor will end up choosing to prolong his career, driven by the desire to beat the young fabio quartararo who will take his place in the official team… “ I think he has a crazy desire to start racing again, also to somehow prove to Yamaha that a bad choice was made on him », comments the former pilot Ducati. “ If Rossi has fun and still finds himself competitive, he can run for another ten years. Going to Petronas means always having an official Yamaha available. For the team, being able to count on Valentino is the best thing ever. Rossi can bring incredible publicity to Petronas ».
The last comment concerns the decision to Ducati to promote Jack Miller within the factory team: “ he is strong and he is one of the rare riders to have moved from Moto3 to MotoGP. I'm really happy for him. As for the other drivers, the situation seems quite delicate to me. Dovi is strong, Petrux is developing and has achieved important results. This is all very strange ».
« If it were up to me, since I am also their friend, Ducati should do the World Championship with three factory bikes. But you can't. A decision will have to be made. Or maybe, somehow, it had already been taken since Ducati had tried to chase Marquez or Viñales. Today Miller is the only driver for 2021, the other one we will know soon ».
