During the summer break, some do vacation homework. This is the case of the Grand Prix Commission which held a videoconference in July. For what ? To deal with these gray areas of the regulations on aerodynamics which rotted the start of the season with a red motorcycle. A laudable intention, but for the application, we remain completely in the dark…

In a bid to eliminate gray areas in aerodynamic regulations, the Grand Prix Commission has approved a set of rules which will come into force next year. Presented like this, the work of the president Carmelo Ezpeleta (Sleep), Paul Duparc (FIM), Hervé Poncharal (IRTA) and Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA) is promising. It was validated by an electronic vote on Monday July 15. New aerodynamic rules will come into force from 2020.

Certainly, but what follows leaves us hungry to say the least: The detailed regulations will soon be available on the FIM website. For now, aerodynamically, we're taking a wind. We will therefore have to wait to find out more, even if the press release specifies that “ manufacturers now have until the first event of 2020 to design aerodynamic components, the date of entry into force of this new regulation ».

The amendment in question concerns these 'grey' areas mentioned in the previous regulation, which also includes specific sections of the guide issued by the Technical Director Danny Aldridge. The proposal was submitted by the latter, in consultation with the FIM and the manufacturers adhered to it. The entire Grand Prix Commission therefore approved it. But what ?
