Lynn Jarvis

Lin Jarvis is a general manager at Yamaha who, like all his other colleagues, sees that the world is changing. Already, we are calling it the next one on the basis of a health crisis which has disrupted relationships and organizations. But what we see in the next decade will be completely new for the auto and motorcycle industries. Because we want to remove their thermal core for electric batteries. However, it is not certain that the transplant takes place as easily by motorbike as by car. Lin Jarvis explains why and instead sees a hybrid solution…

The future will be electric and there can be no other way out if we are to believe the 180° turn taken by an automobile industry which would just as easily sell mobile phones in the same way. And for motorcycling, with its passion side which has always accompanied its character of freedom? It was she who revolutionized mobility, long before the concept became a subject to be debated to make itself interesting. Our leaders firmly believe that the battery is the current to follow. But other ideas are being put forward.

Those of Lynn Jarvis deserve attention, for example. And firstly because he speaks in the name of Yamaha  : " the six MotoGP manufacturers have just signed new five-year contracts with Dorna », notes the Englishman. “ We assume that the 1 cc four-cylinder engines will remain more or less unchanged until the end of 000. But we are studying the use of synthetic fuels, so our industry is thinking about how we can use more environmentally friendly fuels. These discussions had already taken place between MSMA members with Dorna in the summer of 2021 ».

Lin Jarvis: “ I expect motorcycle internal combustion engines to be produced for longer«

« When it comes to combustion, the motorcycle industry is not in the same place as the automobile industry. This is why I expect motorcycle internal combustion engines to be produced for longer » advances Jarvis on speedweek. " With two wheels, it's about battery space, weight, cost and many other reasons. This is why the number of electrified motorcycles in road traffic cannot already be compared to the number of electric cars ».

Certainly, but in these difficult times, an intermediate solution must be presented: “ This does not mean that motorcycle manufacturers do not think about climate protection. Yamaha is well aware of this problem and this summer decided on an environmental strategy to reduce CO2 emissions by 2050. So we have a plan for the next decades that motorcycling must also follow. But the sport is also linked to the production of production motorcycles and aims to promote our motorcycle sales. As I said, the factories are talking about this topic, which is important for Dorna and important for us as a manufacturer ».

It will be recalled that the Grands Prix have a category MotoE reserved for electric propulsion. In 2023, it is a major manufacturer, in this case Ducati, which will equip the board.
