Luca marini

Luca Marini takes the lead from Scott Redding who recently distinguished himself by opening a very reasoned debate on the need to review the minimum weight rule in WSBK Superbike, notably by integrating that of the rider into his calculation. He demonstrated that a light driver was favored, particularly in tire management at the end of the race. Clearly, he compared himself to his successor at Ducati Alvaro Bautista, much less impressive than him under the measuring rod and as heavy as a jockey on the scales. The Englishman seems to have pressed where it hurts because Loris Baz, who passes the 90 meter mark, supported his approach which we find this time in MotoGP with Luca Marini…

Luca marini apparently read carefully the plea of Scott Redding for a minimum weight determined with that of the riders on the motorcycle, for greater fairness towards all body types. Scott Redding thus mentioned that a “ Light rider will always have an advantage at the end of the race, because he consumes less rubber than a heavier rider. What is happening today in Superbike with Bautista is happening before everyone's eyes ". Words that resonated in MotoGP with Luca marini.

Since the departure of Danilo Petrucci on the grid he is one of the greatest riders in MotoGP and, this season, his performances have suffered several times due to his weight. He does 1m84 and weighs 69 kilos while his teammate Marco Bezzecchi QUOTE 1m74 for 61 kilos. And this inevitably has consequences: “ in Moto2, my indoor training was very different. I did very little strength work because I'm heavy in weight and did more cardio work ».

We read about him on Mowmag : " it's more difficult in MotoGP. In Moto2 you have a minimum weight, I exceeded this limit by 4 kilos. The difference between me and Bezzecchi was about 8 kilos. In MotoGP, however, these differences are significant. I'm trying to be stricter with my workout routine and diet. There is no minimum weight with the driver, and so there is a difference of 10 kilos between me and the other Ducati riders ».

Luca Marini: “it is incredible that in MotoGP the rule of a minimum weight for the bike and rider package has not yet been introduced"

This is an aspect that, according to Marini, should be addressed, especially in a MotoGP where we try to reach the maximum level in order to guarantee the best performance. However, it seems that the introduction of a minimum weight has never been discussed and the modification proposed by the Mooney VR46 Team driver will probably not be mentioned for a long time. Also because the manufacturers themselves will probably never push for the introduction of this rule.

« When they have a lightweight driver, factories don't have to worry as much about weight distribution, what changes the behavior of the motorcycle » specifies the half-brother of a Valentino Rossi who made his career from the height of his 82 meter and 65 kilos. “ But it would be better if we all had a minimum weight, because we could do more strength training. I think it would benefit even the skinniest ».

He finishes : " why should a driver be penalized just because he weighs more? For example, at the start of the season, I finished every race with a very worn rear tire, now we have worked a lot on it and we are competitive. Weight has a significant impact on tire consumption. On many circuits I have the feeling, and the data confirms it, that I expect more from the tires than from others. It is incredible that in MotoGP the rule of a minimum weight for the bike and rider package has not yet been introduced ».
