Lucio Cecchinello points out that Honda’s recent progress in MotoGP is starting to make a difference on track. For the first time this season, LCR Honda satellite team rider Johann Zarco took ninth place, giving Honda RC213V its first top ten finish of 2024. While that may seem like a modest finish, for Honda it represents a big step forward.
The efforts of the Japanese manufacturer are slowly but surely coming to fruition, as confirmed by Lucio Cecchinello, team owner LCR Honda. During the official broadcast of the championship, Cecchinello shared his optimism about recent advances: “ we can definitely see a light at the end of the tunnel, " he says. However, he remains realistic about the path that still awaits them, explaining: " There is still a long way to go, because we must not forget that we are generally on average 1,5 seconds behind. We probably got back 0,3, 0,4, even 0,5 seconds, but there remains a significant gap to be filled »
Lucio Cecchinello: “ It is encouraging to see that we are starting to close the gap »
To Cecchinello et Honda, every small victory on the clock is essential, as it symbolises the fruits of the massive investments made in research and development. The 2024 season is a challenge for Honda, often facing significant gaps with the best machines on the grid. However, this trend is a sign that the efforts are starting to pay off. For the team LCR, this is just the beginning: this improvement will not yet lead them to victories, but it shows an encouraging trend.
« It is encouraging to see that we are starting to close the gap., » continues Cecchinello. For him and his drivers, the goal remains to move forward with consistency, to acquire valuable data and to take advantage of the new performances to gradually climb the ladder of the ranking. The road to the top will be long, but with a renewed spirit of competitiveness, Honda et LCR move forward with intact motivation and growing hope.
