The number one in the competition at Ducati on internal rivalry: “Dovizioso and Lorenzo are not friends but they respect each other”.

Luigi Dall'Igna took stock of the situation in the world championship and the climate in the Ducati box after the incredible Ducati double last Sunday in Brno. In a few days, they will be back on the track in Austria, another track favorable to the Reds. Here are some extracts from the interview published on Tuesday August 7 in La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Does taking the double in front of Honda who tested in Brno at the beginning of July increase the importance of the result?

" For me, yes. Also because Marquez tried by all means to win on Sunday. He is one of those who never gives up.”

Dovizioso won by displaying glacial tactical acumen.

“Andrea did something more, he also won pole, and that’s not like him.”

Jorge proved to be the master of the GP18.

“Giorgio did a race I've never seen him do before. He reasoned, he succeeded, he understood that it's not very good to have a long lead if you finish the tires. Sometimes you can win through force, but other times you can win through management. On Sunday he ran intelligently.”

There were those who said that Dovizioso was a bit “in crisis because he had suffered Lorenzo's victories.

“I don’t believe these things. Dovi is still a man, but I don't think he reacts negatively to these stimuli. He has never done it in the past and I don’t see why he should start doing it now.”

In two editions at Zeltweg, the acceleration and braking track has always brought victory to Ducati.

“That doesn’t mean we’re sure to win back. To do this, we will have to be focused and make the right choices. It will be a difficult race.”

In Brno, it was as if an internal championship had started between Dovizioso and Lorenzo.

“For me, internal competition is always good, although it must be kept within manageable limits. That's why I'm not worried: I have two pilots smart enough to handle this. Problems can always arise, like for example in the strange Jerez carom.”

The two, however, do not always spare each other small sentences.

“It must be said that the press puts a lot of pressure on us. I can't say the two are friends. They never were, and it's difficult to find between teammates. But there is a lot of respect. And they don't hit on purpose. Afterwards, if one says something, it is clear that the other reacts. It’s something human, it’s called pride.”

With this Ducati, do the lost points hurt?

“Yes, but I don’t think about it anymore. I prefer to think about tomorrow than yesterday. We are working to give Dovi and Lorenzo, but also Petrucci, the best bike.”

Are the 68 points to be recovered from Marquez an Everest?

“Marquez is already hard to beat on equal points, so with an advantage of 68, only he can lose the Championship. We think race by race.”

Do you ever wake up at night to Lorenzo's nightmare?

“There is no need to think about what has been decided. There were all the conditions to stay, I know Jorge would have been happy to stay.”
