The press conference held after qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang brought together Fabio Quartararo, Maverick Viñales, Franco Morbidelli, Álex Márquez and Marcos Ramírez.

As usual, we report here the raw words of Fabio Quartararo, without the slightest journalistic interpretation.

Congratulations Fabio! 12 front rows in 15 Grands Prix but pole position on your team's home circuit must be a great satisfaction, despite the pressure put on by Marc Márquez in qualifying...

“It really wasn't easy because, during the first run, I knew that Marc was behind me, but I had no choice. We had to at least secure the first two lines because there were clouds above the track. But we managed to have a good ride. On the second run it was very difficult because we went around the exit very slowly. I had some heat during my first lap and even the second was done in tricky conditions. I'm very happy because the lap was almost perfect even though I lost the front in the last corner. In the end, what matters is that we had pole position. »

With four Yamahas that seem very strong, how do you foresee the race tomorrow, also in terms of the weather and the tires?

“Here you can never predict the weather but it is true that all the Yamahas have very good pace. I think Marc will come back, for sure, and Dovi also has very good pace. So it won't be an easy race for us but, as always, we will give 100%. I think we also have a good rhythm. We'll have to choose our tires tomorrow morning to be sure, but normally we already have an idea, and that's great. »

Who could come and disturb the Yamahas during the race?

“As I said before, I think Marc will come back. We know he has very solid pace and he is very strong during the race. Dovi will be there and Rins is quite strong, with good rhythm. We haven't checked exactly who has a good rhythm but for sure the ones I named will be there. »

Marc said you weren't particularly his target during the second run in Q2. What do you think ?

“Well, during the first run he was also behind me so I think if he wanted to follow us, it's because we are doing a good job. I think the team and I are proud of the work we're doing this year, so yes, I think it's a bit part of the game. If I had the chance to do it, I would do it too, so I think it's good for all drivers. »

What will be your goals for next year?

“The objective has not yet been determined. I think we still have the possibility of good results in the last two races, so honestly I feel good on the bike and we have to stay focused on the end of the season. We still have plenty of time to determine a goal for next year. This year we did it in February, so it's still very far away. Of course, I now want to finish the season in a very good way and try to set goals, but more later. »

See you tomorrow at 8 a.m. for the race!
