While the Honda RC213V seems to be performing well in Malaysia, Luca Marini was unfortunately unable to capitalize on this positive momentum. The Italian, who only finished 11th in Practice, will have to contend with a Q1 packed with talent: Marco Bezzecchi, Fermin Aldeguer, Pecco Bagnaia, and Raul Fernandez, all winners this year, will also be there. There is still hope, as his two colleagues, Johann Zarco and Joan Mir, were high in the top 5, which means the potential is definitely there.
Marini couldn't hide his disappointment at the end of the practice session. He was keen to point out how unpredictable this crucial session can be. « No luck this Friday, especially in the last ten minutes.I spent a lot of time on track this afternoon working on our race pace and setup, so when I took to the track with the first new tire it started to rain. We had a chance to get through to Q2, but on my last flying lap, other drivers were in sector 4, and I had to take my foot off the gas. » he confided.

The Italian wants to focus on the progress made, and not just focus on the result. « The important thing is that we can clearly see the progress we have made since the winter tests here, and it is really impressive." he added.

This Q1, as tricky as possible, promises to be tense, but we must not forget that Marini has become a regular candidate for the top 5 since mid-season. “Q1 tomorrow will be difficult with all the other drivers, but as we saw today, anything can happen and we never give up" he concluded.
