You're not interested enough in social media to follow several hundred drivers and teams, but you don't like to miss any of the little stories that animate MotoGP and the other categories? This daily column is made for you, early in the morning, to start the day off right while waiting for more substantial articles.
In Argentina, numerous tributes to sporting legends of the last century were paid by riders on the current grid. Alex Rins was the first to take the plunge this Saturday, unveiling a helmet bearing the image of football star Diego Maradona. Hailing from the country that hosted MotoGP last weekend, the Spaniard knew how to garner the support of the local fans.
"Diego's legacy in Argentine culture is undeniable. A country where sport is lived with a passion unmatched in the world, where those who love you, love you and will always love you, and those who don't, hate you. This is my tribute not only to a global icon, but also to a way of understanding sport that we have the pleasure of experiencing (almost) every year here in Termas. VAAMO ARGENTINA 🇦🇷!"
The second tribute paid this weekend by a MotoGP rider, was Marc Marquez's to his compatriot, Angel Nieto. Equaling the Spaniard's 90 victories this Sunday, the number 93 donned a wreath of flowers, awarded to winners of races in the past. He also wore a scarf decorated with a message to the late Spanish champion: “Thank you, Angel. 90.”
