Dorna is deploying all its ingenuity and all its resources to meet a major challenge: that of launching a MotoGP World Championship while the world is under the yoke of a pandemic. A health situation which closes borders and confines humanity. However, we must race because the teams will not be able to hold on economically forever. If Carmelo Ezpeleta hits the mark, activity will be dense between August and December 13. It will be a special season that will have to be approached in a very specific way. Marc Marquez explains how…

Since 2013, there has only been one MotoGP championship that has escaped Marc Márquez. It was 2015, the year he played a role in the duel for the crown between the two Yamaha riders Jorge Lorenzo et Valentino Rossi. Apart from that, it is he who strives to put his Honda on the roof of the world. In 2019, he delivered an almost perfect copy by humiliating his opponents with a record number of points scored.

Certainly, but what about 2020? It will be an original campaign with a new calendar. Of 20 Grand Prix initially hoped for, the Coronavirus will only allow barely more than ten to live. And several races can be held on the same circuit, closed to the public. However, in the end, there will be a legitimate World Champion.

So, how do we approach what we can assess as a new competition? Marc Márquez, expert on the subject responds: “ if we have a shorter season it will be difficult because you will have to take more risks » he begins. “ At the same time, you will not be able to afford a breakdown because we will not have time to make up for lost points », warns the pilot to 27 , in the MotoGP.com video interview.

But he also knows: it will not be enough to simply reach the finish line, as the season will be too short to succeed with this strategy. » We will therefore have to rush headlong to win the prize by assuming the inherent risk-taking, and therefore, also, rely on luck to escape falls and technical problems. Needless to say, it will be tense!

However, the prospect of an intense fight does not give sleepless nights to the one who will team up with his brother Alex in 2020: “ I'm not worried about it yet. When we have a schedule, we will analyze everything and define the strategy » he finishes. “ For now, the most important thing is to follow the guidelines of the government and experts. It's difficult, but that's how it is. We have to stay home and still be patient. Of course, it's not easy to stay at home all day. That's why I have a schedule that I'm following these days ».

« After waking up, I get up, eat breakfast and exercise ", explains Marc, who also spends time at home with his brother and new teammate at Honda : " I'm lucky my brother is with me. We can play football together in the garden or pass the time on the PlayStation. But I don't like it as much as him or my cousin » repeats the one who won 82 real Grands Prix but not yet a podium in a virtual race after two experiences: Mugello, won by Alex Marquez, and the Red Bull Ring, where Pecco Bagnaia  materialized.
