In three races, Pedro Acosta established himself in the world of Grand Prix, and at just over 16 years old. A precociousness which makes him part of history since the Spaniard registered as the fifth youngest driver to get on the podium, in the 73-year history of the paddock. His two consecutive victories were taken in style. So much so that he has attracted praise from his illustrious elders Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez. As for the latter, there is no doubt that he sees him as a future opponent in MotoGP…

How far will it go Peter Acosta ? If he continues at this pace, he can only go so far. At Qatar, from his debut, the Ajo KTM rider got on the podium. A week later, on the same Losail route for the Grand Prix of Doha, he achieved the feat of starting from the pitlane after a sanction to overcome his handicap, the peloton and make it happen. HAS Portimao, he showed a mastery worthy of an old veteran, winning the decision in the last lap. The young Spaniard had a simple strategy in mind which he explained as follows upon arrival: “ the plan was to have fun for 25 minutes, then take the trophy ».

A disarming assurance that leaves no one indifferent. Valentino Rossi, in Doha, had already complimented Peter Acosta, even having fun saying that he was now waiting for her firmly in MotoGP... Vale added another layer after the Portimao demonstration: “ impressive. He had a perfect race. It's incredible. He has a lot of talent and a great future ».

Marc Marquez: “if he keeps his head where he should keep it, he will reach MotoGP”

An opinion shared by Marc Marquez. An authority in terms of achievement, precocity and requirements. A feeling that deserves attention, because the current official Honda can very well already consider Peter Acosta as the great opponent of tomorrow in MotoGP. The eight-time World Champion, who made a heroic return to the Grand Prix at Portimao, after nine months of convalescence, commented: “ Pedro Acosta is good, very good. I already tweeted about him after the Qatar race. It drives differently ».

He adds : " I think he will win this year, but let's not put pressure on the kid. He is very young, but if he keeps his head where he needs to keep it, he will reach MotoGP and he will do it very well. He will reach Moto2 and eventually MotoGP. He will be one more Spaniard in the category and I have no problem recognizing that when he arrives, if he continues this progression, he will make things very difficult ". So he still has to do the hardest part at 16: keep a cool head and a clear mind.
