Massimo rivola

Massimo Rivola is boss of the Aprilia Racing structure and, as such, he participates with his counterparts from Ducati, KTM, Honda and Yamaha in the reflection on the new regulations which will have to come into force in 2027. A debate which is essential to say the least, which is not simple, because it amounts to synthesizing everything and its opposite. So, if the principle is established that it is necessary to reduce the speed of current MotoGP, there is no question of returning to the world before the one which disappeared and which was succeeded by the one after...

A return to the future which would be far too simple a scenario to validate. Massimo rivola, confided in speedweek on the complexity of the subject, the theme of which is certainly the reduction of machine performance for safety reasons, but not only that. Last year, lap records were broken on 15 of the 20 circuits on the calendar.

So looking to the future, the idea is to make motorcycles slower for safety reasons and to improve the entertainment factor. This is a subject addressed by the CEO ofAprilia Racing, three years before the implementation of new regulations in 2027…

The Italian said: “ we have the obligation and the goal to make motorcycles slower, for the simple reason that the tracks are not big enough. There are security concerns, and they must be respected ».

Massimo Rivola: “ a MotoGP has to be something that not everyone can ride »

But it’s not just about security either… “ I would say we clearly need to do something for the show, taking into account devices such as level correctors and aerodynamics which significantly shorten the braking phase. The shorter the braking phase, the less chance of overtaking. Making this phase longer will benefit the show. These are the two main objectives ».

Nevertheless, the engineer believes that a MotoGP should continue to have very unique and almost identity characteristics: “ I always think that a MotoGP should be like a two-wheeled plane: something completely different from a normal road motorcycle and something not everyone can drive ". Butter, butter money and creamer with it?
