Maverick Viñales has settled in for this winter break in Qatar. He has in fact set his sights on the Losail site to take advantage of both its atmospheric and logistical conditions which will allow him to prepare carefully for the future season. In this cocoon, he also thinks about safety, essential in his risky job. He reviewed certain circuits on the calendar to stop at what for him is an incongruity: the Isle of Man TT…

Maverick Vinales is equipped with Alpinestars and during a communication operation for the brand, the one who finished third in the 2019 MotoGP championship indulged in confidence regarding safety on the circuits. Above all, he set this imperative: “ Safety is assessed when there are sufficient meters of distance from the wall. That's where we really get hurt is when you hit the wall or another motorcycle. » A vision of things which does not, however, exclude the idea of more or less urban routes, as would be the case in Indonesia: “ I think if the asphalt and gravel parts are correct it can be very interesting and innovative » assures the Yamaha rider.

The teammate of Valentino Rossi stressed that the current regulations are much safer than the previous ones and, therefore, many circuits have clearances that allow drivers to avoid serious injuries: “ there are many tours with incredible safety, especially newer ones like Buriram. They already come with the new regulations and there is already all the security. »

One of the No. 12's biggest concerns is the layout of Mugello, stating that the end wall of the main straight is too close: " it's not easy to modify all the circuits but Mugello is one of those where we reach 350 km/h and from there you almost have to jump on the brakes, and it's a bit dangerous. Eventually they will work out that bump. Every year we repeat it and they will eventually take care of it. »

But since we're talking about safety, what about this Isle of Man TT organized on the road? “ To be honest, I wouldn't be able to ride there. There are a lot of people who are passionate about this race, it's undeniable, there are people who love running these races and it's their passion. We have our risks too, but, of course, there are many more risks on the Isle of Man. But there are a lot of people who have a strong affection for the Isle of Man, just like MotoGP or F1 or rallying. Ultimately it's a passion, it's not up to me to say if it's good or bad. There are a lot of pilots who like it and it's a tradition ", concluded Casa Particular in Viñales.
