By 2027, MotoGP is preparing for major technical upheavals with new regulations. Manufacturers, including Yamaha, are already working hard to adapt their machines to these future standards. Max Bartolini, Yamaha's technical director, shared his perspectives on this process with speedweek.

According to Bartolini, Yamaha is still in the discussion phase and has not made a choice on the final concept of the motorcycle for 2027: “ we are discussing the new bases, but there is no final concept yet »

The Italian engineer emphasizes that Yamaha could well keep its in-line engine, which has several advantages: “ I think we better start with the current concept. We use an online engine, which I think has several good aspects. The design of the motorcycle is therefore very logical, less complex, and there is no no reason to move to a V-engine concept just because of the control aspect of the new displacement »

Yamaha will have a motor with a V and a cylinder motor with a line: 'Ambas as variants têm de ser examinadas'

Max Bartolini: “ At Yamaha we need to have a finalized concept by the start of next season at the latest »

However, Bartolini does not exclude exploring other options: “ in my opinion : the freedom to work in other areas of the motorcycle, including aerodynamics, is greater with an in-line engine. Nevertheless, in a perfect world both variants should be examined in detail, but at present I cannot give a definitive answer. But of course we need to have a finalized concept by the start of next season at the latest »

It is clear that the new regulations aim to reduce speeds and improve safety on the slopes. Yet, Bartolini remains skeptical about the effectiveness of these measures: “ The message behind the new regulations for less speed and more safety is clear – and the aspects adopted are a way of responding to it. But I have doubts whether the real goal can be achieved by this path »

Yamaha , like its competitors, is navigating a crucial phase of planning and development, where every technical decision could influence the future of performance in MotoGP. As the clock ticks, pressure mounts to finalize a strong and competitive strategy for 2027.
