In MotoGP, you will have to be convinced, the support is now good weather. Aerodynamics are fantastic for making tire rubber super soft, so much so that some have decided to tackle the subject without complexes to reach the apex. Which is not without moving the lines, disrupting habits and annoying helpless competition. After the Qatar Grand Prix and the revolt of four manufacturers against Ducati and its accessories placed here and there on its GP19, the federal authorities will have to cut the Gordian knot. But the premier Grand Prix category has already entered a new era. A certainty which is also that of Max Biaggi.

The six-time World Champion is also now a Moto3 team boss, with Aron Canet riding his KTM. The Roman is also an Aprilia dignitary, a brand which is part of the rebels against Ducati. On his Facebook account, the Corsaire expands on the subject which is currently setting the paddock in turmoil.

He writes : " The 2019 World Championship has begun and, with it, a great controversy, which will surely leave traces in the relations between the teams. As you all know, the subject of the dispute is represented by the appendix that Ducati has mounted on its two official motorcycles.

All of them, with the exception of Yamaha – which had a similar experience in Valencia (but, in this case, it was raining and its use was probably different) – presented a complaint which was rejected. For this reason, an appeal was made by the same teams, for which the FIM Court of Appeal will rule these days.

The problem is that aerodynamic developments always create regulatory conflicts, because the line between what is legal and what is not is very subtle. In Formula 1 we see how the “aerodynamicists” of the different teams are always looking for regulatory issues, in order to develop new ideas, through which they generate an advantage for their team.

The world of MotoGP has evolved a lot in recent years in terms of aerodynamics! Just think of the problems Iannone and Bagnaia faced. In fact, during the first frantic laps, contact between several riders caused them to lose part of their winglets. When they returned to their pits, they had both reported a bike that had obvious dynamic issues.

All this was unthinkable until recently! This episode represents another response to the thousands of doubts, which animated the discussions between enthusiasts on the usefulness of aerodynamic appendages. Aerodynamic packages developed by manufacturers work and change the dynamics of the motorcycle in a constant way, similar to what happens on cars.

The best way to limit the escalation of costs linked to aerodynamic studies is to quickly adapt the regulations in order to decide, immediately and with extreme clarity, what is legal and what is not!

Formula 1 can teach us a lot in this area, so they should take it as an example. What do you think of all this? Would you hinder all aerodynamic appendages or are you in favor of regulated development of aerodynamics on motorcycles?

Personally, I think that with the great power of today's machines, we can no longer do without winglets, so that the front wheel can more easily stay in contact with the asphalt. Winglets represent an advantage in terms of safety and performance. I also think that there needs to be clear regulation in order to prevent regulatory debates and an increase in costs.".
