This will be one of the facts retained in this 2019 MotoGP season that Marc Marquez took on in Catalonia, laying the foundations for an eighth coronation. In Montmeló, it was his teammate Jorge Lorenzo who played on the fast-setting concrete with his blunder on the second lap of the race in turn 10. An incident which not only eliminated him, but also took away the two Yamaha officials and Andrea Dovizioso. Since then, Marc Márquez has been leading the general classification and Jorge Lorenzo has been under fire from criticism. But he still has friends. So Max Biaggi.

Beginner's error, lack of discernment for some who demanded punishment, unfortunate racing event for others who saw no reason for sanction, the observation at turn 10 of the Montmeló route approached by a Jorge Lorenzo who never came out was a matter of debate. Which is legally closed since the officials considered that there was nothing to say about Por Fuera's maneuver.

Absolutely no doubt, and we would have left it there if Red, Casa Particular in Viñales et Dovizioso had not been collateral damage, to the great relief of Marc Márquez who was not asking for so much to race towards his fourth victory of the season.

In the turmoil, we count our friends and the Majorcan can list Max Biaggi among the faithful. The latter provided his expertise on this fall which caused a lot of noise. On his social network, he comments: “ looking at the footage we can clearly see that Jorge and Vale are braking late, as the former was fighting with Maverick and the latter with Danilo Petrucci. We also see that Dovizioso, when overtaken by Márquez, cuts his momentum to try to open a trajectory further to the inside, so as to lift his bike faster and take advantage of the acceleration, to try to iron ».

Max Biaggi then explained the attitude of the Spanish pilot: “ Lorenzo, obviously, was already long, he was even closer to Andrea than he expected and, to avoid hitting him, he braked very hard with a tilted motorcycle. Contact was inevitable at that point. This is obviously what happened. That said, it's also obvious that Andrea has nothing to be ashamed of, neither Vale nor Maverick. Everything stems from an obvious error of evaluation by Jorge, which took place in a curve where, given the particular configuration, a very tight curve which almost goes up, makes you slow down a lot ».

The six-time World Champion concludes: “ the unfortunate thing is that there were three drivers involved in the crash who could have fought for victory. Jorge is also aware of this, he publicly apologized on live television and, after the race, apologized to all the riders involved.”

“As for what happened, I think it's fair to blame whoever it happened because of it, but you can't tear down a driver who usually doesn't make these mistakes and who, in his career, showed himself to be fair and sincere ».

This is enough to fuel his opinion. It will be recalled that Bradley Smith will have to move back three places on the starting grid for his next Grand Prix in Brno to see his teammate hang on Aleix Espargaró at the same turn 10 on the very first lap.
