With the British Grand Prix fast approaching, KTM decided to take advantage of this period to intensify its development efforts. The Austrian manufacturer held two-day private tests at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, involving its test drivers, Dani Pedrosa and Pol Espargaró. And we saw some new things there...
These tests are of paramount importance for KTM, which seeks to continually improve its RC16. The pilots were able to test new parts and configurations, notably in aerodynamic material. A new, wider rear mudguard was thus tested. But not only.
« Personalized experimental pieces of new aerodynamics are used. A completely new large-area mudguard between the swingarm and the rear is also already tested" , has explained Dani Pedrosa.
These trials are also an excellent opportunity to Pol Espargaro to become more familiar with the bike and prepare for his next wild card at Spielberg, in a few weeks. The brother ofAleix Espargaró had already shown good performances during his previous wild card at Mugello.
The choice of Red Bull Ring for these tests is not trivial. This demanding circuit, with its numerous changes of pace, allows you to put the motorcycles to the test in extreme conditions. Additionally, another test is planned in Spielberg just after the Austrian Grand Prix, thus demonstrating the importance that KTM grants to this circuit for the development of his motorcycle.
KTM goes all out on aero
« The importance that the extraordinary circuit with numerous fast passages and brutal braking zones a for the overall development is also demonstrated by the fact that just one week after the Spielberg GP another two-day test at the same facilities is planned“, underlined a representative of the team.
Thanks to these intensive tests, KTM hopes to be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the RC16 and make the necessary improvements to be even more competitive in the future. The data collected during these tests will be valuable in the development of the motorcycle for the 2025 season and beyond.
« Due to the long lead times for completing part of the development, it can be assumed that Assemblies from 2025 will be used in both Spielberg tests“, we clarified.
With Dani Pedrosa et Pol Espargaro the controls, KTM has an experienced and talented test pilot duo. The two Spaniards have already demonstrated their ability to develop the bike and provide precise feedback to the engineers.
The next few weeks promise to be very intense for KTM, who is working hard to get closer to the best teams in the championship MotoGP.
