Miguel Oliveira knows where he's going...

Miguel Oliveira, in his progression within the MotoGP grid, has impressed at least as much as that of KTM in general. Two common destinies seem to be emerging, which bodes well for both parties. However, the teammates will not let this happen, with their legitimate desire to also play their cards. The Portuguese, during the presentation of the RC16 in view of the coming season, made some comments on the forces present and his teammate Brad Binder who is anything but an unknown…

Miguel Oliveira joins the factory team KTM coming from the partner Tech3 with whom he won two victories in 2020. A revelation which accompanied that of the RC16, and which, as often, finds its basis in past trials. Including one in particular. The Portuguese reveals that he has reached a milestone by managing his 2019 shoulder injury in the best possible way, which handicapped him and kept him away from the MotoGP during a moment : " something like this leaves a mental mark, but ultimately made me stronger » he said.

He adds : " although the 2020 season was much shorter, I was able to gain a lot of experience with the bike and now feel more at home ". And he clarifies what he means by that: “ my team leader must understand me and also be able to interpret my facial expressions or tone of voice. Then everything works more efficiently. It is important that I receive Pol Espargaró's team, they have a lot of experience and have always been quick with him. This gives me confidence and a good starting point ».

Since he talks about his new quarters, what does he think of his new teammate Brad Binder who is an old acquaintance? “ We get along well, he is very honest and frank. We won't have any problems with each other. Who will be number 1 and number 2 depends on the results, something like that is not determined in advance. The team wants to move forward. If we're first and second, I don't think they really care who's in what position. It's clear to me: I want to beat the 21 other drivers. Brad will help me surpass my limits if he is faster ».

Miguel Oliveira predicts a magical championship

Miguel Oliveira ends by evoking his conviction that what was seen in 2020 is not an exception, but rather the beginning of a new era: “ Marc Márquez dominated the championship for a long time, so we were used to a different championship. No one knows what will happen in the upcoming season. But with twice as many races, maybe we'd see 16 winners, or even 22 later. In MotoGP, the density of competition is extremely high, especially since everyone has a factory bike in their pits. So I think it's likely that we'll see more different winners, it gives the championship something magical ».
