Australian Mike Jones will join the Ángel Nieto team at Phillip Island to replace Álvaro Bautista, who in turn will replace Jorge Lorenzo, injured, at Ducati.
Born in Brisbane (Australia), Jones will compete in his second Grand Prix at home, after finishing in fifteenth place there in 2016 for his second participation in this category. This weekend he will ride the Ducati GP16 normally driven by his new teammate Karel Abraham, while the Czech rider will pilot the Ducati GP17.
Mike Jones : “I am very excited and grateful to race with the Ángel Nieto team in my home MotoGP™ race. Phillip Island is a circuit that I know well and that I really like. I look forward to learning little by little throughout the weekend and riding to the best of my abilities.”
