Marc Marquez

Dorna Sports has shared a statement from MotoGP race director Mike Webb to clarify the situation regarding the delayed cancellation of Marc Marquez’s record-breaking lap in qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix. The Gresini rider had set an impressive 1’42.868s in the final minutes of Q2, temporarily securing pole position. However, that lap was later cancelled due to track limits violations.

The controversy arose when the cancellation of the tour was not immediately reported, preventing Marquez to react in time to try to get a new time. The lap was not officially cancelled until after the checkered flag, leaving Marc Marquez with no chance to defend. Due to the weather conditions, with light rain towards the end of the session, the rider then declared that he had no interest in attacking again, eventually qualifying in ninth place.

Gresini Racing team expressed frustration at the delay, which was attributed to a technical glitch in the system for reporting runway limit violations, which are normally monitored by sensors installed on the green-painted run-off areas.

Mike Webb: " The cause of this problem has been located and the system has been adjusted »

Mike webb, in an official statement, provided clarification on crash.net : " the track limit sensor was triggered immediately, which results in the automatic cancellation of any turn. The FIM MotoGP stewards immediately entered it into the system, but unfortunately, a software glitch interrupted this process and required the tour to be manually cancelled, which delayed notification. This is the first time this happens among the thousands of track limit violations investigated each season. The cause of this problem has been located and the system has been adjusted to ensure that it can no longer reproduce. »

Despite this setback, Marquez managed to finish on the podium of the race Sprint the same afternoon, securing third place despite a difficult qualifying session. The software issue therefore deprived the driver of a better starting position, but his ability to overcome adversity and achieve a solid result once again proves his talent.
