The Suzuki driver draws a rather positive assessment of his discovery of the premier category, although certain points remain to be improved for next year.

Joan mir will not have had an easy first year in MotoGP, with the first Grands Prix which gave him a hard time. Despite an encouraging eighth place in Qatar, he continued to suffer from bad luck and mistakes afterwards, even experiencing unexpected situations. We remember his fall in the warm-up lap at Le Mans, or his forced retirement in Argentina due to a mechanical problem, a first in his young career. A stolen departure to the United States was also added to the list.

And then from Barcelona, he managed to raise the bar and evolve much more at the forefront. From then on, he finished nine out of eleven races in the top 10, with a fifth place as his best result in Australia. He thus finished 12th in the Championship and second best rookie, behind Fabio Quartararo, enough to be satisfied. However, the Suzuki driver knows that he will have to work hard next year, especially in qualifying, if he wants to hope to be able to aim for the podium.

“It’s been a difficult season with a big injury. In the end I would sum it up by saying “potential but bad luck””, he commented. “We showed in many tests and even during some races that we had the pace to fight for the top 3 but then we always had to come from behind (on the grid) and in this category we are all very close and do the difference is difficult. This is what we need to make progress on. »

“I'm a rookie, I've had to learn a lot of things and I still have a lot to learn. But what we did with the team was to adapt the bike to my riding style and me to adapt to the way of riding a MotoGP in order to be more competitive. We have worked particularly well on this point. »
