The Petronas Sepang Racing Team driver is in much worse shape than last Sunday but hopes to recover sufficiently to fight at the front tomorrow.

The weekends follow one another but are definitely not the same, especially in MotoGP. This is certainly what must be thinking Franco Morbidelli, author of his very first victory in the premier category last Sunday on the Misano circuit, and struggling on this same track this weekend after having spent a difficult week.

The Italian pilot has in fact been ill and weakened for several days. Still in the saddle for the free practice sessions, he was able to do the job to move straight into Q2 with a second place in FP1, just 90 thousandths behind his teammate, and a fourth position in FP3.

“Today wasn’t too bad”, he said after placing eighth in qualifying. “I feel better than yesterday but I'm still not 100% so I had to manage that during the sessions. I've been sick all week, missed a day of testing, and I don't feel fully recovered yet. In qualifying I felt like I didn't have the energy to attack the way I wanted but I'm going to try to rest a little more to be as prepared as possible for the race. »

“My pace doesn’t seem too bad but we still have to decide which tire we will use”, he added. “I think tomorrow's race will be more demanding than last Sunday. The gap between many drivers is very small so the race will be close. »
