• On the occasion of its 14th round, the World Championship of MotoGP™ 2024 returns to the Misano circuit for the second consecutive time.
• Michelin Motorsport will provide the same tire supply to its partners as for the previous Grand Prix.
• The records broken only two weeks ago with the contribution of Michelin tires constitute new objectives for the drivers.
This second Grand Prix in a row at Misano, organized as a replacement for the Kazakhstan round, is an exception but also a unique opportunity in the season. On a technical level, this double event can be interesting for the teams as well as for Michelin, who will be able to store more data on the same circuit in a concentrated period. It is also an opportunity to refine the settings of the bikes even more deeply, and to test more solutions to increase performance and reduce the time.
In addition, an official test session was held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli the day after the Gran Premio Red Bull di San Marino e Della Riviera Rimini, on Monday 9 September. With the Gran Premio Pramac dell'Emilia-Romagna, Michelin's partners will have driven for a total of seven days on the same circuit in just over two weeks.
For this second race in a row, the organizers are once again counting on a large turnout. Attractive prices have been offered, and the Italians will certainly be numerous to come and support their champions. The transalpine riders are indeed 6 out of 24 entered in MotoGP. On the Michelin side, despite the repetition of the location, no routine has set in. Depending on the weather but also less tangible criteria, even in a universe that is a priori controlled, the teams of the French manufacturer are ready to deal with any unforeseen events.
« After a weekend of racing and a test day here less than two weeks ago, we are relatively calm but we are still on our guard. " noted Piero Taramasso, manager of Michelin's two-wheel competition. “ We have seen a significant increase in performance, and after the generous track time we have had here in recent weeks, we can expect the bikes to benefit from very fine-tuned settings. The riders will find in our tyres all the consistency and versatility they need to push the limits of their machines. Most of the benchmark times were broken at the last Grand Prix, but we also know that records are made to be broken. This will not be possible without taking certain risks, with a show at its best and tyres that will, as always, give their best. The big unknown is the weather, as we are a little later in the season and by the sea, where the air can quickly become loaded with humidity. »
For the Gran Premio Pramac dell'Emilia-Romagna 2024, the tire supply will be exactly the same as that of the Gran Premio Red Bull di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, in early September. Michelin's partners will have at their disposal three symmetrical tires (Soft, Medium and Hard) for the front wheel. At the rear, they will be able to choose between two notches of rubber, Soft or Medium. The latter will be asymmetrical, with the right shoulder reinforced. A choice legitimized by the configuration of the circuit, which has ten right-hand turns and six left-hand turns, for a length of 4,226 km.
In case of rain, Michelin will offer its MICHELIN Power Rain ranges in Soft and Medium rubber, for the front and the rear, which will also be reinforced on the right side, like the MICHELIN Power slick.
Records to break
The circuit record, in 1'30.304, was set by Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) during the second phase of qualifying for the last Grand Prix.
The fastest lap in the race, set less than two weeks ago by Marc Marquez, is 1'31.564.
The reference time of the Grand Prix is 41'33.421, and that of the Tissot Sprint is 19'56.502. The fastest lap in Tissot Sprint is 1'31.236.
The Gran Premio Pramac dell'Emilia-Romagna 2024 will start on Friday morning, September 20 with a first practice session (10:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.). Then a second session, scheduled for the afternoon (from 15:00 p.m. to 16:00 p.m.), will allow the 10 fastest drivers to directly access the second phase of qualifying (Q2). After a final free practice session on Saturday morning (10:10 a.m. – 10:40 a.m.), Q1 will allow the repechage of two additional starters in order to determine, at the end of Q2, the starting grid for the weekend. The Tissot Sprint (13 laps) will start on Saturday at 15:00 p.m., and that of the Grand Prix (27 laps) is scheduled for Sunday, September 8 exceptionally at 13:00 p.m. (instead of the usual 14:00 p.m.).
