Friday's San Marino Grand Prix began with the usual drivers at the top of the order. Jorge Martin led the first free practice session (FP1) in bright sunshine at Misano, but in the afternoon Pecco Bagnaia showed his experience at this track and was quickest in the second practice session.
bagnaia, Ducati Lenovo Team rider, set a time of 1'30.685 on his penultimate lap, getting closer to the absolute circuit record set by Martin last year. Marc Marquez, second in both sessions, finished just 185 thousandths behind bagnaia, confirming his excellent pace with the soft rear tire. He looks ready for this Saturday's Sprint race.
George Martin, which had dominated the FP1, finished third, with a time of 1'30.966. He continues to show his strength on this track, while preparing for a new battle for the title.
Franco Morbidelli, used to training on this track with his personal Superbike, finished fourth with a gap of 0,282 behind bagnaia, proving that he knows this route well. He is ahead Enea Bastianini (5e) and Peter Acosta (6th), who significantly improved his speed between the two sessions despite a fall at turn 8 ten minutes from the end. Fortunately, Acosta escaped without injuries.
The top ten places were completed by Marco Bezzecchi (7e) Maverick Vinales (8e) fabio quartararo (9th), and Jack Miller (10th), all qualified for Q2. Among those who will have to go through Q1, we find important drivers like Brad Binder (11e) and Aleix Espargaro (12th), the latter having suffered a fall at the end of the session.
The first day of testing at Misano has therefore seen Ducati dominate, but competition remains fierce with Marquez et Martin in ambush. What will this have in store for us?
