Ai Ogura is suffering from bruises and injuries after his crash at the Misano GP and hopes to be fit for Japan.
Ai Ogura appeared to finally get my head above water in Barcelona after a very complicated second half of the season. However, he was unable to get everything right and qualified only 15th at Misano before finishing 12th in the sprint race on Saturday. On Sunday, the situation worsened as he crashed on the third lap.
“Unfortunately, I crashed and it’s a shame because we really wanted to finish the race. We had made some changes to the bike just before and only me and one other rider were equipped with the soft rear tire. So I wanted to see how the race would go, especially for tomorrow’s test. It would have given us some ideas and it’s a shame that I crashed in the first laps. The crash itself was my fault and it happened quite quickly. Luckily, I don’t have any major injuries, I’m lucky to have gotten away with it like this. I’m happy to be okay after this crash but I’m sorry for the team.”, did he declare.

While no footage of his fall was shown, it was severe enough that he was unable to participate in the official test the following day. The Trackhouse team stated in its statement: “Medical examinations conducted after the fall and on Monday morning revealed bone bruises at the base of the bones of the index, middle, and ring fingers of the right hand. All bones, including the little finger, are inflamed. In addition, inflammatory swelling around the pivot joint of the wrist limits movement and causes discomfort. An ultrasound also detected widespread soft tissue swelling directly under the heel of the left foot.”
Already injured in the middle of the season, Ogura had only recently fully recovered. This incident comes just before his home Grand Prix in Japan, for which he will logically want to give his all in front of his home crowd. He has five days left to recover as much as possible.
