Misano

During FP3 in Misano, Ducati confirmed its hold on the Grand Prix of San Marino and the Riviera di Rimini, 14th stage of MotoGP 2022 scheduled for Sunday at the Marco Simoncelli World Circuit. Jack Miller obtained the best time of the session with a time of 1'31.296, placing his Desmosedici which he will leave in the hands of Enea Bastianini for the next two seasons ahead of that of Pecco Bagnaia, who we will remember that he will be penalized 3 positions on the grid for slowing down Marquez and Bastianini in FP1.

Behind the two Ducatis we find the leader of the world ranking fabio quartararo (Yamaha), which preceded the Suzukialex rins, protagonist yesterday of an argument with a track marshal, who after a fall pulled him, thus detonating the airbag in his suit.

Fifth beat for Maverick Vinales which, on Aprilia RS-GP, is ahead of a Franco Morbidelli (Yamaha) resurrected, which for the first time this season enters directly into Q2, finishing immediately ahead of Miguel Oliveira (KTM). Also in Q2, with the times recorded on Friday, Johann zarco (Ducati Pramac), Aleix Espargarò (Aprilia) and Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing).

Among others, Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati Mooney VR46 Racing Team rookie), Pol Espargaro (Honda Repsol) Luca marini (Ducati Mooney VR46 Racing Team), Alex Marquez (LCR Honda), Jorge Martin (Ducati Pramac), Michele Pirro (Ducati tester and wild card with Team Aruba), Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati Gresini) and Andrea Dovizioso (Yamaha WithU) for his last career race, will be in Q1.

What will these qualifications have in store for us which will organize the starting grid for this San Marino Grand Prix in Misano? Before answering this question, here is the table which summarizes the facts known so far.

Track conditions remain uncertain with scattered raindrops. It starts with Q1, in which a total of 15 drivers fight for a place in Q2. Including the Ducati wildcard Michele Pirro et Kazuki Watanabe, who replaces injured Suzuki rider Joan Mir. the two best drivers will come out to play the final, i.e. Q2.

Here we go !

Alex Marquez fall at the entry turn 3. The yellow flag is displayed. The first reference is signed by George Martin in 1'32.208 ahead Bezzecchi. There is no sign of the rain that started during FP4 and Moto3 qualifying. The track is dry, 29 degrees are measured on the asphalt. The air temperature is around 25 degrees.

Bezzecchi slams a 1'31.961 in front Martin. In the first sector, the white flags with red crosses are waved again, the rain is coming again!

Short pit stop, then all drivers gradually return to the track. Also Alex Marquez, who is now fighting for a place in Q2 on his spare bike and with valuable advice…

Rain flags don't stop Marini to get ahead Martin from second place. Both VR46 drivers are currently in Q2. We are entering the last minute… And the rain is intensifying. George Martin is therefore the turkey of the joke, the first eliminated from this Q1. By Giannantonio et Brad Binder stand next to him. They are followed by Alex Marquez et Pirro in 16th and 17th places. Dovizioso misses qualifying for Q2 by around seven tenths of a second in his final qualifying session, he will start from P18 tomorrow. Only then did the Repsol Honda riders Espargaro Pol et Bradl follow in 19th and 20th in front Darryn Binder in P21. Takaaki Nakagami, Watanabe et Remy gardner form the eighth row, with Raul fernandez starting 25th and last.

It will be a wet Q2 at Misano, the rain is starting to fall with greater intensity. bagnaia leaves his garage to check the state of the asphalt. There are 5 minutes left at the start of Q2, the drivers are assessing the weather conditions to understand how to proceed: they will probably all enter the track with wet tires.

Jack Miller, Francesco Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini, Fabio Quartararo, Alex Rins, Johann Zarco, Maverick Viñales, Aleix Espargaró, Franco Morbidelli, Miguel Oliveira, Bezzecchi and Marini compete for pole position at Misano.

Another foray onto the track by bagnaia, he went to the side of the track to check the asphalt conditions, then ran towards the garage. As tradition dictates, it is the driver who chooses the tire to be fitted, after consulting his team. The drivers have chosen: they will go out on the track with rain tires, it is not just the track that is wet, even the edges are wet and therefore very dangerous.

Surprise: Oliveira, Morbidelli, Bastianini, Miller Marini et Bezzecchi are slick! The KTM rider sets a good time and bagnaia comes in to change bikes for slicks. Miller is in 1'36.004. All the drivers switch to dry tires.

Bezzecchi moves briefly to the top then Miller against again in 1:34.764 minutes. bastianini passes in 1'33.812. The marshals are once again displaying the flag with the Saint Andrew's cross, but many drivers are now on the track with dry tires!

bagnaia who will have to give up three places goes first, but zarco immediately steals the provisional pole from him. We're entering the last minute... Under the checkered flag, it's the Australian who takes pole position ahead Bagnaia, Bastianini, Bezzecchi et Casa Particular in Viñales. zarco is sixth, Quarterly only eighth. bagnaia will start fifth, giving up his place on the first row to Bezzecchi. We will recall that he wanted to start fourth…

The Australian takes his first pole position since Argentina 2018. With bastianini et Bezzecchi, two other Ducatis follow, they will form the first row with Miller on Sunday. bagnaia falls back to P5 with his 3 place penalty on the grid, Viñales moves up to fourth place. zarco completes the second row. Luca marini finished seventh, followed by the two world championship leaders Quarterly in eighth and Aleix I will espargaro in ninth. Oliveira, Morbidelli et Kidneys will start from positions ten to twelve. Despite his grid penalty on Sunday, the Ducati star has a better starting position than his World Championship rivals Quartararo and Aleix I will espargaro.
