Starting only fifteenth, Miguel Oliveira worked his way to the top of the standings in this Emilia Romagna Grand Prix to finish fifth, just six seconds behind winner Maverick Viñales on his Yamaha. The one who materialized at the Styrian Grand Prix also took points from the leader of the championnat Dovizioso from whom he is only 25 points away, the value of a victory. Not bad, but it would be even better if he managed to get through qualifying better…

Le Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was not bad for Miguel Oliveira, far from there. In the top 5 and not far from the winner, the Red Bull Tech3 KTM rider remains among the leaders of the season. But everything would be better if Saturday ended like Sunday… “ I am happy with the result “, underlines the KTM RC16 rider. “ We knew from the start that we had the pace for a good position, but 15th place on the grid didn't help at all. I found a good rhythm, I was smart because it was very easy to fall in this race. I was able to stay on the bike, take only the bare minimum of risk and thus obtain a good result ».

« It is difficult to find the cause of falls », admits Olive tree, 8th in the championship. “ I would say that the difference between medium and hard front tires is too big. You should have another tire compound available in between. Also, the medium tire is not usable for us, some can. We can only take the hard front tire, this tire gives us the stability we need. But hard tire rubber is inherently too hard. This is one of the reasons for falls ».

“You have to be faster in qualifying”

The rest takes place this weekend in Barcelona: “ Catalonia will certainly not be as hot as it usually is in June. I am optimistic and I think we can fight for the top positions again, given the track conditions and the layout ».

« You need to be faster in qualifying, that's no secret either. The others can make a bigger jump with the soft tires, even the other two factory KTMs. This is probably due to a different setting, a different approach when using the soft rear tire. There is no solution to being fast in qualifying on a single lap on each track. Solving the qualification problem is not that simple. This is very specific because it depends on many factors. If we start from the front, we can claim the podium in every race » assures the Portuguese.
