After a great race, which he could have finished in style, Jake Dixon made an unusual mistake, which prevented him from getting on the podium. As he crossed the start/finish line in third position, the Briton eased off the gas one lap too early, and gave the podium to one of his competitors. 

Jake Dixon will certainly not have fond memories of his final lap at the 2 Moto2024 Malaysian Grand Prix. After a spectacular race, which saw him return to the front from twelfth on the grid, the #96 took advantage of a better tire strategy, and better tires, to fight for the podium.

Following Ai Ogura's retirement due to mechanical failure, the Aspar team rider was defending third position with one lap to go. However, as he crossed the line and began the final loop of his race, Dixon got back up and eased off the gas. Everything suggested that it was a mechanical failure, but the Briton actually ended his race one lap too early, thinking he had just reached the finish line.

Although he quickly realized his mistake, he was unable to defend his position. He thus offered this podium to his first opponent, since it was his teammate, Izan Guevara, who overtook him to take advantage of the honors of getting on the box. A frustrating situation for the main person concerned who, however, quickly picked himself up after this incident.

"It was not an easy weekend because of everything that happened in Valencia, start by remembering Dixon It was a great race. I managed to reach the leading positions and I was fighting for the podium, but I couldn't do it. It's time to think about closing the season in the best possible way."

A podium that Jake Dixon has been chasing since the Aragon Grand Prix. He had started the second half of the season with three consecutive podiums, including two victories.

The fourth place he achieved at Sepang nevertheless allowed him to secure his first top-5 since the San Marino Grand Prix, the first of two races to be held on the Misano circuit, last September.

Jake Dixon will now try to conclude in style in Barcelona, ​​the venue where the final round of this 2024 season will more than likely take place. A circuit that should suit the Briton, who secured his first podium of the season there, coming out of a difficult patch.
