FIM Grand Prix World Championship

Decisions of the Grand Prix Commission

The Grand Prix Commission, composed of MM. Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, President), Paul Duparc (FIM), Herve Poncharal (IRTA), Takeo Yokoyama (Honda) and Massimo Rivola (Aprilia), in the presence of Jorge Viegas (FIM President), Carlos Ezpeleta (Dorna), Mike Trimby (IRTA, meeting secretary) and Corrado Cecchinelli, Director of Technology, during a meeting held in Catalonia on June 4, 2021, made the following decisions:

Sporting Regulations

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
DEADLINES FOR PARTICIPATION IN T1 AND T2

The riders who will compete in Q1 and Q2 are determined by the combined times from the free practice sessions. Due to infractions such as exceeding track limits, it is sometimes difficult to finalize results after FP3 as infractions may be discovered by race direction or reported to MotoGP stewards. This can lead to teams not having enough time to prepare the machines for Q1 or Q2.

In the future, the combined results of the free practice sessions will be finalized 60 minutes after the end of FP3. Likewise, the results of Q1 will be finalized five minutes after the end of this session. Any infringement likely to modify the results, discovered after this period, will not be taken into account and cannot be the subject of a complaint or appeal.

MOTO3 TECHNICAL REGULATIONS – IN EFFECT FOR THE 2022 SEASON

To ensure continued cost control for Moto3 teams and manufacturers, the following proposal has been approved by the Commission.

2022 & 2023:

The current specifications of the 2021 motorcycle, as declared by each manufacturer, will be frozen until 2023 inclusive.
– The maximum price of a complete rolling chassis will remain at €85.
– As part of the engine package, each manufacturer will only be required to provide three gearboxes per two-driver team.
– Each team will be allowed to rent a maximum of 2 additional sets of gearboxes at a capped price of €2.500 each.
– A maximum of 6 engines per rider will be authorized for the season. However, a manufacturer may, at its discretion, allocate 5 engines per rider for the season.
– Manufacturers can continue to charge the championship €60 per entry for the supply of the engine, whether the allocation is five or six engines per rider.
– As engines are rebuilt during the season and reallocated to teams, manufacturers must avoid unnecessary additional rebuild costs due to engine misuse. Therefore, a protocol will be agreed with the manufacturers which will define what is considered acceptable use of the engine by teams and riders.
In other words, teams may be charged for proven engine damage caused by the driver or team exceeding these parameters.

FROM 2024:
– It was agreed that all parties will do everything possible to introduce a new, more sustainable fuel.
– From 2024, motorcycle specifications will be declared for a minimum period of 2 years (with a review during mid-season of the first year to assess the possibility of increasing to 3 years). This means that at the start of the 2024 season, each manufacturer will declare the specifications of their bike at the first event of the season, and these specifications will be frozen at least until the end of the 2025 season.
– To prevent a manufacturer from having a design issue impacting the performance of their motorcycle and not being able to repair it for 3 years, each manufacturer will be allowed to improve one of the areas following the first year only.
