Quite rare in recent times, the Italian Grand Prix, which will take place this weekend at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, has the particularity of having wildcards in each category.

En MotoGP first of all, one of the men who best knows the 5250 meter Tuscan circuit will be present, Michele Pirro. The Ducati test rider, who was recently renewed in his position until 2026, knows the transalpine route by heart, not only for carrying out tests there very regularly for the Borgo Panigale firm, but also for having participated each year in the Italian championship of which he is champion 9 times. At 36 years old, and despite a recent shoulder injury suffered two weeks ago during a test at Mugello, the rider from Puglia will therefore be able to apply 11 years of know-how as a Ducati test rider on the circuit closest to the factory.

Another Italian test driver from an Italian manufacturer, Lorenzo Savadori is guaranteed to participate in his national GP, either as a wildcard on an official Aprilia RS-GP, or on the Portuguese rider's RNF Miguel Oliveira if the latter could not make his return to the Italian GP. As we write these lines, we are moving more towards the first solution, assuming that the Portuguese driver receives the approval of the doctors this Thursday.

En Moto2, it has become a tradition: Mattia Pasini will once again be at the start of the Italian Grand Prix! At 37 years old, the Rimini rider is still very competitive and has led some memorable duels at Mugello, such as in 250cc with Marco Simoncelli in 2009, or in 2017 where he won the Moto2 race outright in the Italtrans colors.
This year, “Paso” will race with the third bike fielded by the Dutch team Fieten Olie Racing GP (see here).

Finally, in Moto3, Luca Lunetta will have the task of standing out in their home event. This Roman, born in 2006, cut his teeth in the Italian championship and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup before racing in JuniorGP this year, where he currently occupies 4th position.
He will line up at Mugello aboard a KTM from the MT Helmets MSI team.

« I am extremely happy to be able to announce that I will be participating in the Italian GP in Moto3 this weekend. This is a dream come true and I will do my best to make the most of this opportunity! »
