Assen Marc Marquez

Day to forget for Marc Marquez at Assen. On a circuit that rarely smiled on him, he experienced his share of falls, notably during the final qualifying session, then during the Sprint. Starting seventh without the possibility of defending his chances in the final seconds of Q2, he was unable to take advantage of his natural explosiveness. Fortunately, he did not hurt himself in the second fall and will try to do better tomorrow, during the Grand Prix.

Strange day for Marc Marquez. The speed seems to be there, without a doubt, but he cannot put everything together to achieve a good result. This blunder does not help this observation in any way. “It was a big mistake. J'lost reference on the second lap, and I fell when hitting a curb. Tomorrow I have to be careful not to repeat it” he affirmed, rather calmly, at the end of this Saturday. Furthermore, this is the first time this season that he has not scored points in the short format.

Although he is still in the game, we saw him less fast than in previous rounds, and often behind other GP23s, notably that of his brother with whom he shares the box. « We can't fight for the top 5. The pace is there but it's not regular. Not finishing the Sprint takes away crucial information, but there's plenty of Ducati on the track to make up for it." he added immediately.

The reference is easy to see. Already yesterday, he told us that Pecco Bagnaia was “two steps ahead of everyone” ; an observation that is verified today. “Pecco flies on the track. He's faster everywhere, it's impressive. » says Marc Marquez, eight-time world champion.

He was also prey to another fall, earlier, in qualifying. On his last attempt, he found himself hampered by Aleix Espargaro in a fast corner. “There was nothing unusual about that one. I was faster, and I had no choice but to go. The fact that he passed me in the last corner before the fast lap doesn't matter. I will continue to do the same, it's the game, it's the sport. » he concluded.
